Give it to Youngster Joey; he'll make sure it's in the top percentage of eggs.

This darned game will turn you into a Mary Sue/Marty Stu whether you want to be one or not.

@ReaderWriterNerd&Geek: It's the only way to explain why only a kid can subdue legendary Pokemon and defeat region-spanning criminal organizations when there are actual adults who have spent their lives training Pokemon.

Although GSC kinda addresses this when Lance actually shows up to help you defeat Team Rocket, so they do make some progress here.

On the other hand, no one said Pokemon wasn't escapism, so... :P

@Surfersquid: Either that, or *every* adult in the world (besides Gen. 2's Lance) are in the competition for laziest person alive. XD

BTW, I know you didn't mean to do this, but it's my little sister's birthday today and I thought it was cool that her favorite webcomic got updated today :)

@ReaderWriterNerd&Geek: On World-Wide Laziest Person Alive Competition: I can believe that. After all, you're character is the one of the few individuals who actually levels up their pokemon more than a few levels who ISN'T a known thief or otherwise part of a criminal organisation. The alternative, of course, is that your character's "Super Special Snowflake" Power (Mary Sue/Gary Stu Power) is the significant amplification of experience your pokemon receive, and making catching of wild pokemon significantly easier.

Oh, and, I hope your sister had/has a happy birthday.

@Darius Drake: Both those theories make sense. The fact that Professor Oak gives you a Pokemon that will evolve into a fairly powerful one also gives you a bit of an unfair edge. XD And then, you've got to fill in the Pokedex, whereas other young trainers don't have that responsibility and most just hang out in or near their hometown with no real ambition to get much stronger or go anywhere else.

But that doesn't explain the apathy of every adult citizen (including the powerful Gym Leaders) towards Team Rocket...unless...

OK, new headcanon: Giovanni, being the strongest of the Gym Leaders and in charge of Team Rocket, is threatening the other Gym Leaders' families, friends, Pokemon, etc., so that they'll remain silent and not challenge his nefarious schemes.*

And thank you! She did; cake, ice cream, a piƱata, sparklers, and lots of presents :)

*All of this applies to game canon, of course, not the world of Trainer Wants To Fight. Here, no one sees TR as much of a threat and finds their antics more amusing than anything. XD

@ReaderWriterNerd&Geek: I love when comics spark rampant headcanon theorization.

Sounds like a fun birthday! :D

@Surfersquid: Me too, it's fun!

It was! :D

Reply Nashew, September 6th, 2016, 2:52 pm

If she turned it down, would you say the same thing to the next kid who came along?

Reply Surfersquid, September 6th, 2016, 2:53 pm

@Nashew: Probably.

@ali: Thanks! I guess we'll see what Team Rocket's like three years after Book 1. :)

Personally I think the reason why they trust you is because you have a Pokedex and that means a Professor trusts you. Because think about it, 99% of trainers do not start in your town, 99% of them therefore do not have Pokedexes in the first few games, only you and your rival do as in the first ones the Professor has just ordered a couple for what seems to be the first time.

In the first few generations you were that lucky kid that got a Pokedex - you had a lot more incentive to raise your Pokemon too due to that.

Not a lot of people seem to actually challenge and beat a lot of the gyms - they seem to like battles, but not a lot of them seem overly invested in the gym challenges and of the ones that do, only 40 or so people besides you ever seem to get past all 8 and they all got lost in Victory Road to never leave again.

@MoogleSam: That makes a lot of sense. Thanks! I forgot about the Pokedex thing.
